Choosing Your Class

To choose a particular class for your character, answer the questions with the virtue corresponding to that class. (e.g. Always choose Honor when ever that is a choice to become a Paladin.)

To become the Avatar you must be the supreme example of all eight virtues. Each virtue has a city you can go to to learn more about that particular virtue. Visit Hawkwind in Lord British's Castle to learn how you are progressing in each virtue.

Once Hawkwind tells you that you are worthy of Avatarhood in a particular virtue, visit its shrine to attain partial Avatarhood in that virtue.

To enter a shrine you need to have the proper rune.

Compassion: At the foot of the stairs in the hotel in Britain.
Honesty: Three steps south of the tile on which Mariah is standing in Moonglow.
Justice: In Vorpal's prison cell in Yew (need key).
Humility: In the southeast corner of Paws (need key).
Valor: In the basement of the Hotel in Jhelom (need key).
Sacrifice: In the fire in Zircon's house in Minoc.
Honor: Located in the middle of the field where the old man is toiling.
Spirituality: In a secret room in Lord British's Castle, beside three treasure chests.

There are eight allies that will join your cause, one of each class. The allies can be found in the city of their virtue. Some allies won't join you, though, until you have reached a certain experience level. The ally of the same class as your character will not join you.

Modes of Travel

Use the moongates in the beginning of the game to move quickly across Britannia. The first moon, Trammel, determines where the moongate will appear, and the second moon, Felucca, determines the destination of the moongate.

Defeat pirates along the coast and you can take their ship.

The balloon is located just outside Dungeon Hythloth. Find its secret entrance at the back of Lord British's Castle and then cast the Exit spell.

Items
Key - Purchase for 2000 gold in the guild shop in Vesper or Buccaneer's Den. Use it to open any locked door.
Sextant - Press SELECT at the guild shop in Vesper and the shop owner will sell it to you for 900 gold. Use it any where in the overworld to learn your location.
Scale of Exodus - In a cave in the Serpent Spine north of Britain (81, 63). Give it to Zircon in Minoc and he will forge the Axe of Legend for you.
Fungus - This reagent can be found at 149, 46 when both moons are new.
Manroot - Purchase this reagent for 20 gold apiece when you press SELECT at the reagent shop in Buccaneer's Den. Manroot can also be found at 54, 182 when both moons are full.
Book of Truth - In the library of Lyceum, second row, to the right.
Candle of Love - Second floor of the shrine in Cove.
Bell of Courage - In the shallow northeast of Serpent's Hold at 208, 176.
Silver Horn - On the island north of Magincia at 129, 179. Blow it when the shrine of Humility is in sight to keep the demons and gargoyles away.
Skull of Mondain - East of Serpent's Hold in the midst of three volcanoes at 245, 197.
Flute - In a basement in Magincia.

You need to collect all eight stones of virtue to complete your quest. All but two can be found in the dungeons of the virtue's vice.
White - The Stone of Spirituality can be found in the cave north of Britain at 81, 63
Black - Enter the moongate by Moonglow when both moons are new and search to discover the Stone of Humility.

Keys of the Principles

The Keys of Truth, Courage, and Love are found in their alter rooms at the bottom of the dungeons. You need to use the correct stones of virtue to gain the keys.
Truth - Blue, Purple, Green, and White.
Courage - Red, Purple, Orange, and White.
Love - Yellow, Orange, Green, and White.

Powerful Weapons and Armor
Axe of Legend - Give the Scale of Exodus to Zircon in Minoc and he will forge for you the Axe of Legend. Only a fighter can equip this powerful weapon.
Sword of Paradise - Once you have achieved Avatarhood, you can find this weapon in the Lyceum. Only the Avatar can equip this weapon.
Exotic Armor - Once you have achieved Avatarhood, you can find this weapon in Empath Abbey. Only the Avatar can equip this armor.

The entrance is at 233, 233. Use the Bell of Courage, the Book of Truth, and the Candle of Love in that order to open the entrance to the Abyss. You will enter if you have the Skull of Mondain.

Each level of the Abyss is dedicated to a virtue. When you reach the grail at the end of the level, answer the questions correctly to proceed to the next level.

Level 1 - Honesty, Blue
Level 2 - Compassion, Yellow
Level 3 - Valor, Red
Level 4 - Justice, Green
Level 5 - Sacrifice, Orange
Level 6 - Honor, Purple
Level 7 - Spirituality, White
Level 8 - Humility, Black

At the bottom of the Abyss is the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. You need the keys of Truth, Love, and Courage to read it.

Leave the Abyss through the stairs behind the Codex and Lord British will congratulate you for successfully completing your quest for Avatarhood.
